I wanted to report a confusing behavior when importing videos, and also suggest a possible improvement regarding attachment limits.

For example, when I try to import a 1 GB video file, Diarium immediately rejects it with a clear "500 MB limit" error. However, when I compress the exact same video down to around 116 MB, Diarium starts encoding it for several minutes and then fails again, this time saying it exceeds a "30 MB limit."

I’m not sure whether this is related to encoding, codec differences, or something else, but it is difficult to understand why different limits are applied in different situations, especially since the app already starts processing the video before failing.

It would be great if this behavior could be made more consistent or clearly explained.

At the same time, I would also like to kindly ask if you could consider making the attachment size limit optional instead of fixed.

I completely understand the reasons behind the current limit, and I also understand that Diarium is not meant to be a storage app. However, as you already know from previous forum discussions over the years, many users have continued asking for a larger limit because this is still a real issue for some of us.

I have been using Diarium for several years, and I constantly run into the attachment limit. I often have to manually split videos into smaller parts just to import them, which takes extra time and effort, and sometimes larger files simply cannot be added at all.

Maybe a good middle ground would be:

keep the current limit as the default,
but add an optional setting for advanced/local users to allow unlimited attachments or at least a much higher limit like 1 GB.

For users who mainly store everything locally and have plenty of storage space available, this would make a huge difference.

And honestly, I would fully accept possible downsides such as a larger database size, slower sync, or even slightly worse performance in exchange for having the freedom to use larger attachments when needed.

Ideally, both the 30 MB and 500 MB restrictions could also follow the same configurable limit (either 1 GB or unlimited), so the behavior becomes more predictable overall.
