Separate browsing from editing

Another vote for this feature. I like revisiting my previous entries, and am always afraid of making changes, as there is no confirmation window to save the changes.

Adding a read mode by default would prevent this issue. Thanks!

I have thought a simple solution on this matter. In app settings we have the option to enable the full view for entries in timeline, this is a nice choice for preview the timeline, but in the case when the texts entries is long then the timeline is cluttered and is very annoying to scroll up and down to find the exact diary entry. I suggest to the timeline view to add the option to expand the full view individual for each entry, maybe with a symbol + or something similar, and in this way we can preview and read without editing individual each entry, and when want to edit we simple tap to open the writing section as normal.

I don't want this. It would add extra buttons to click when I simply want to edit. I don't want to toggle and untoggle just to edit. There is also an Undo button in case you accidentally edit an entry.

grtrttutyu No it's not give extra button for edit because it will be on timeline preview entry as option. If you don't needed you can ignored from the app settings. The undo button of course is here but it is not convenient when just want to read or review the entry and mistakable tap the screen as usual happen to most users, you don't want to fight with keyboard and scroll in this scenario, it's just frustrating...

Aris Hi Aris, I was refering to the other suggestions above your post that involves toggling or clicking a button to switch from View to Edit mode. I'm good with your suggestion since it doesn't add more clicks.

+1 for separate view mode... it would allow cleaner look when browsing... it would also be nice to view bigger photos attached to the entry in this view...

I second the toggle mode solution. I too am afraid to make unwanted changes without knowing it. This happens every now and then.
I would expect existing entries to open in view mode, with only formerly attached items (e.g. photo's) visible. And an option to toggle into edit mode.
New entries should (of course) open in edit mode.
In edit mode you would have all the available options like in the current version.
And an option to 'save' maybe.

I love this app btw. I use it for all kinds of stuff. Finding back things with the text search works like a charm.
I also love 'browsing the attachements' mode (photos). I find it a wonderfull way to walk back on Memory Lane.

I'm curious, what kind of unwanted changes do you make occasionally? You can use the undo/redo buttons or keyboard shortcuts to revert accidental changes to the text content. Just wanted to mention that in case this isn't clear 🙂

When touching the screen of my Phone or tablet I accidenty select text and the help screen appears (copy, paste etc). Sometimes I make the wrong choice or think I did. And I have to find out if and where I added or deleted anything. Or I already browsed to the next page and then realize I saw a selection bar Just before I browsed . . . or maybe not. . ?

timo also, when I accidently tap the screen, the keyboard pops up.
That is just not what you want when you're reading.
