I take it as given that my fellow Diarium users will tend to be as keyboard-oriented as I.
The main thing we all do is write new entries:. But when the program starts, the keyboard focus defaults to the top-left "Close Navigation" button. That's a bit odd, but not so very bad: A simple Back-tab (shift-tab) places the focus squarely on "Today" in the calendar, and then the spacebar opens that day for entry. (Easy, once it becomes habitual, but far from obvious.)
At that point, though, the focus returns to the Close Navigation button! There's no easy way to begin entry, other than reaching for the mouse. The focus should already be either on the Title ("Dear Diary...") or even better (I think) ready for actual text entry, since I, at least, like to enter my recollections first, then title them. But while I can get from the Title to the Text by pressing Tab as expected, a Back-Tab does not go back up from the text to the title. It should.
It would be especially cool if there were some hot key combo that would open the most recent, unentered day that is not in the future, and set the focus to enter text. Maybe the program might even open that way from the start? I see something like that was already requested: "Shortcut key to add Journal Entry". You replied, "Which OS?". My OS is Windows. I think that you could use Alt-<Letter> for Windows and Ctrl-Apple-<Same Letter> for Macs? Which letter, you may ask? I'd advocate something that can easily be chorded with the left hand. Maybe "a"?
The next most common activity for me, at least, is to search for previous text. (This is a great, useful, feature!) The search function pretty much requires a mouse-click. It'd be nice if it opened with a Ctrl-F. (Ctrl-S already does a "Sync", which is good.)
The other major functions should have hot keys as well. (I see Ctrl-T already works for Tags.) Possibly Alt-key (or Ctrl-Command) combinations, since many Ctrl keys are already dedicated to editing functions? The menu across the top (Share, Export, etc) might simply be Alt-<the ordinal number of the function>? So Alt-2 would be Export, for instance. Or maybe, on Windows keyboards, the similarly numbered function key.
Finally, of course, a map of these plus existing key combination could be made to pop up, somewhere in the UI. Again, since I feel we're all keyboard-centric, I'd advocate for this being on the top level, if you can manage it. However burying it under "About" would be acceptable, especially if a there's a hotkey were dedicated to it, like Alt-?. If you're not already using Shift-Command-? for "Help" on Macs, that might be a good use. (F1 used to be "Help" for Windows, but I don't think that's much used anymore, and I already suggested another use for it, above.)
