Add location to entry automatically

I was going to request this feature !
Configuration to enable the feature should be in the Settings, so users can change it as needed.

Also, the location name should be displayed may be after the date. Clicking on it would open a map view as it does currently, when the map is clicked. The original Add Location then could be changed to Remove Location, something that is now missing.

It's not missing, just a bit hidden.
You can click on the small map in the details page and then use the "remove" button in the page that opens

timo Sorry, but I don't understand. I'm desperately looking for this details page where I see a small map and something to disable. But I just can't find this page. Where do I look to find it???

I'm not sure if this has already been suggested but - In my old app, on IOS, location services had the option of 'always allow' I found this really handy because when I used to tap the + button to create a new journal entry it would show a list of places I had visited that day and at what times and It would give you the option to name that location too.

The reason I think this is a good idea is because like most people (I assume) I write in my journal in the evening after my day has ended. The issue is, ALL my entries have the location of my home address (because that's where I am when writing) which is a bit pointless If I am writing about my day trip to a remote beach loction where the weather was hot and sunny, meanwhile back at home in the evening it's cloudy and raining! Therefore, not only is the location wrong but so is the weather.

I hope this makes sense!

EAPTCB I don't see where this belongs to the feature request posted above, maybe I didn't understand it?
Diarium would have to run all day in the background to track your location and I surely don't want to add something like this.
And you can always change and adjust the location manually by clicking on the map and move the pin

The feature request above asked for 'autmatically add the location' So I thought what I was asking was relevant.

Let me elaborate. When you use an app on iOS you have three or four Location Services choices (depending on app) these are usually

Ask Next Time Or When I Share
While Using the App
Always

What I was asking for is the choice of being able to chose "Always" - I know this is not for everyone and I know about the battery usage etc but I don't mind this - because Diarium would keep track of where I've been and "automatically add the location" for all the places.

At the moment Diarium has the first three options only - I'm just asking to be given the CHOICE of location service type - NOT on all the time by default.

"Always" means the app can also access location while it is in the background (not visible) if I'm not mistaken. Diarum doesn't need your location when in the background, therefore the app doesn't ask for it.
The app certainly would need to ask for it if it needs to track your location throughout your day, but that's not what this feature request is about 🙂

This feature request is about a feature that automatically adds the current location when opening/creating a journal entry, just as you would click the "add location" button manually.

timo Hi timo, thanks for your fast reply and sorry I am not making myself understood. I wil try to explain one last time - Here's what I was trying to say - If there is an 'Always on' loction option then Diarium will track ALL the places I have been to - what for? well...

...My old journal app had this 'Always On' option - what this meant for me is that In the eveining when I am at home and when I want to create a jounral entry from the days events - I hit the '+' button to create a new journal entry, a screen would pop up showing all the places I had been to and I could chose one (or more) of those tracked places (and name them) and create an entry - it would also auto attach the time, date, weather etc at THAT time and at THAT place with no need for manual adjustmants .

The benefit of this? - well, say you are driving along somewhere you have never been to before and you see something which you want to remember and write about - unless I stop the car and create an entry at that exact time and place I may not remember exactly where it is to manaulally add the location later that evening.

Another scenario, is when you are with a bunch of friends out for the evening - you may be taken to several venues which you have never been to before, a local pub to watch a live band, a meal in a nearby restarant etc - If you are having a good time (and too many beers!) it may be impossible to recall the names of the venues you visited -but my phone and Diarium would remember for me!

So in Diarium, when I hit the plus button (iOS) the calendar shows the current date with 'new entry' at the bottom. By having the Always on option (and with some magic from you) Dirium could auto-populate a list all the places I had been to that day and I could tap on any one of those locations instead. - I hope this is a better explanation?

As I've written above, Diarium will not add a feature that will track the users location all day. What is more likely is that I will add a feature like asked for here. Maybe you can try that feature in Google Maps?

Thanks again for taking the time to write this feature request and I understood what you are asking for, but I don't plan to add background location tracking in Diarium for various reasons. E.g. I would have to adjust the privacy policy and more. Apple and Google (and many users) are allergic against background location tracking - and I don't like it either 🙂

Sometimes I forget to add the location to a entry, it's ironic, but happens.
Would be better to automatically add the location when an entry is created.

Approved doesn't mean it has been implemented, nor does it mean that it will be implemented. It rather is a helper-tag for me to organize feature requests

DannyK If you have added a location, it will show at the bottom of the entry. To remove the location, tap the location; when the page loads, tap the Delete (trash can) icon at the top of the page.

I would like to have the option of a default location being part of the settings. I own versions for my PC and both iPhone and iPad, but 99% of my journaling is done at home on the PC version. ONE location. It would be most helpful if that option were implemented. If that isn't possible, is there a way to have location added as part of a template?

I'm sure it's not easy with the different "flavors" of this app (PC, IOS, etc.) and likely a pain-in-the-ass to implement. Overall, I'd like to see the ability to have more customization to templates (full-on mask?), but that's another story for another day.
