Change the tag order inside the entry/post

Hi Timo,

It would be nice if I can change or rearrange the order or tags inside the post/entry. Every time I add a tag to entry it arranges in a random order regardless when I add tab. See below image for more information.

I use windows version 2.9.55.0 and android version 2.9.62

Being able to edit the order of the tags would be ideal. However, I would be happy with the ability to display the tags for each day in the order I created them (added, saved, whatever). Which unfortunately is not currently possible. They are always rearranged according to some key (probably the frequency of the tag?).
For me this order has a meaning. I could just look at the tags tab then, and I would immediately see the order of events on each day in the overall overview. If you use Diarium for work, this would be a tremendous help to save time and make your work more efficient.

Hello, I would be thankful for the option of rearranging tags too. I have a two-level system of tags which I am using across my different systems. They are living organism and I change them from time to time. It would be great to have an option to rearrange tags so that it is much more easier to add new tab of 2nd level to the tag of the 1st level.

I would also find it useful to display the tags in a self-chosen order. My tags (persons, trackers) belong to different groups and not all of them are equally important. A quick (easy?) alternative would be to add the tags to the entries in alphabetical order, so that the Diarium-user can organize them by adding a number or letter code to the tags. Ideally, you would be able to display all tags (per tag group of course) in a certain order, including the 'people' and the 'trackers'.

That indeed would be much easier, because it wouldnt require changing the database schema to track the tags order and I wouldn't have to add reordering UI/logic. However, I am unsure if tags, people & tracker should get mixed or if they should be treated separately (first tags sorted alphabetically. then people sortedalphabetically , then tracker sorted alphabetically). I am leaning towards the latter.
Any other opinions?

I would keep the tags, people and trackers separate, but within each group display the elements alphabetically. Those of us who want to create their own sorting could use codes (numbers and/or letters) at the beginning of each field. This will probably be the easiest to implement.
If the demand for a more “elegant” solution remains after this implementation, it can be reconsidered. It looks like alphabetical sorting in the entries would do the trick form me.

After looking at this issue closer, I believe it would be also possible to show the tags in the order that they were added, without changing the database schema (by using the SQLite table row id, which is incremented as tags are being added). But the difficulty of adding a reordering UI/logic would remain.

Using the “ SQLite table row id” is a solution for new entries, but entries entered before this change in behavior will not necessarily be in the desired order. Personally, I continue to favor alphabetical ordering within the three separate domains of “tags,” “persons” and “trackers. A more complex solution might be to provide the ability to assign a weight (say, from 0 to 100) to each 'tag,' 'person,' and 'tracker.' Of that solution, I wonder if it is compatible with your intention to keep Diarium simple to use.

dysthymus Currently, the order of the tags is undefined. Making them alphabetically sorted would be a change in behavior just like using the primary key for the tag-entry relationship.
No matter how I decide, I would very likely keep the tags / people / tracker separate (and in that order)

On Android the tags are already getting automatically ordered alphabetically within their "domains" (tags, persons, trackers) when going back to the timeline and they stay in this order when entering that entry again. Regardless of the order while adding them. Or did I missed something in this thread?

It seems appropriate to me to keep the “tags,” “persons” and “trackers” separate and in that order. That way, users who want to sort can do so without changing Diarium's behavior for the large group of users who don't care. The “alphabetical solution” also does not require UI modification, in my opinion, the option to choose between “alphabetical” or “non-alphabetical” is irrelevant (either you care, or you don´t).

I think that just might be coincidence. At the moment, I don't do any explicit sorting except for the type (so that tags are before people and people are before trackers)

Is it a lot of work to list the tags in an entry alphabetically (within the 'tags', 'persons' and 'tracker' sections)? This could be done, for example, by adding that option as a selection button to the 'personal settings' menu.
