  • Text Formatting also in Windows version

Diarium version: 2,9.55.0
Operating system: Windows 11

Since I started To use Diarium 2.9.62 on android on a tablet, where Text formatting is implemented, I also bought the windows version. I sync via webdav with my own Nextcloud and I had planned to continue my journaling on whatever device I just have in reach. I was convinced, that something so basic like Text formatting (even here in this news text window) must be implemented, but could not find it. Since I use text formatting extensively to structure my texts visually, i now have to realize, that the windows version is more or less a read-only version for my use case. Is that a hard-to-implement feature for the windows editor of Diarium?

Text formatting is already implemented in the Windows version, simply select a text or right click in the text field to see the formatting toolbar

timo Okay, veery subtle I must admit. I tried clicking, typing, MD-style, but to select text or to right click was not among the things I tried. Hm. Am I the only one struggling with this? OK, once you know it ...

How could it be improved? Would you prefer a toolbar that is visible all the time? I think a few users would disagree with such a change 🙂

timo I personally would prefer a visible text editing bar similar to the Mac version.
      I requested this previously here.

+1 from me for the initial suggestion for visible formatting.

re: your question about how it could be improved timo, a user-selectable OPTION in settings could prevent dissatisfaction of users who "would disagree with such a change?"

So, on Windows specifically, perhaps offer a toggle in Settings that allows me to show or hide the WYSIWIG formatting toolbar:

      • SHOW an always-visible formatting toolbar in the ribbon bar area (of course just providing access to the same format options as the context menu provides), or
      • HIDE it and revert to the exact same functionality as it has today accessible via context menu

timo That's a fair stance. Just brainstorming then: If I bring up the formatting bar after highlighting a selection, or right-click - perhaps an option to dock or pin the bar with a subtle but user-discoverable element. Once docked/pinned, a subtle way to undock and return it to the existing behavior.

Yes that's something I had in mind as well. But it wouldn't be trivially easy to implement, especially because the context menu / formatting bar is provided by the system with limited extensibility. But I will keep this in mind!

      timo Windows

I see that is NOT an option? For a paid app? BOO :/ Should have stayed with my old app 🙁

JosephGalbraith Have you even read through the thread? Text formatting is possible on Windows

        a year later

timo Hi Timo, I keep having a problem with text formatting in windows 11. It stops working the further I get to the right side of the screen. All fine until I get to the clock symbol level, then it doesn't work anymore on any line I'm typing. A right click doesn't bring up a menu to change text.

Not sure, how that happens and whether anybody else has the same problem? Are you able to fix that or is it an issue with my laptop? Haven't noticed in any other app like word or excel though.
        Thank you.

Can you share a screen recording video with me?

timo sorry, missed your reply. Would love to but don't know how to a screen recording video. I just checked, the problem still persists. Can't format on my laptop beyond the clock symbol. To the left of it it all works fine.

timo have tried to do a video but can't attach it to this message, sorry. Not sure, how to share it here.
