  • The application does not automatically load all photos (v.2.9.53)

The application does not automatically load all photos. Some are loaded, some are not. For example, on vacation I used the same phone (Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra) every day. At the end of the period, some photos appear in the diary, others do not.
A few days ago I purchased the application and manually entered the notes made in another application (from 2010). I have the same problem: some photos are loaded in Diarium, others are not. It is very difficult to search for them on the computer and upload them manually, almost every day, when the same photos (with names like: 20171020_124850.jpg) are also on the phone but it does not upload.
Thank you for this app.

Thank you for the application. I have rarely spent money with pleasure as I did by purchasing both the Windows version and the Android version. I'm sorry I didn't discover it earlier.
I apologize for the mistakes, I hope it is clear enough. English is not my native language.

Diarium version: (v.2.9.53)
OS + version: Android 13

Are you referring to the "Camera Roll" integration or manually added photos?
I haven't changed anything with the Camera Roll integration in recent updates, did it work previously?
Can you give more details on what kind of photos are shown and what are not?

Thank you for your concern.
For example on an Android phone: October 20 is my son's birthday.

  1. Going to the application on October 20, 2022, I find the photos already uploaded, I only enter the text.
  2. The photos from October 20, 2021 are not uploaded automatically and I have to upload them manually (and here another problem arises that I will refer to at the end).
  3. The photos from October 20, 2020 are loaded automatically and here I just have to insert the text from the application I used previously (a rudimentary application, not comparable to Diarium).

And now I return to the problem mentioned in point 2: in order to load the photos from a certain date (which the application does not load automatically), I click on "add photo/ select photo/ ".
-If I select "Photos" then the photos from WhatsApp also appear here and I don't want that.
-If I select "Albums", we have 3 folders: "Camera", Screenshots" and "Downloads". If I select "Camera", all the photos from all years appear, without being able to select a specific date. Try to imagine how complicated it is to go look for photos of an existing event in a folder from 2010 or 2009 or 2011 (birthdays, matches, trainings, etc.).

And here I noticed another problem: I find most of the photos on the dates I know the events took place, but I still have hundreds of photos dated May 27, 2022, photos that were taken over several years. Checking in several photo viewing applications (both on Android and on Windows), they are dated correctly, but Diarium does not read them properly. I tend to think that only these photos are not uploaded automatically, but I can't figure it out because there are so many and placed randomly (2017, 2014, 2010, 2022, 2018, again 2014, 2018 and so on) all listed at the same date, May 27, 2022, which makes them very, very difficult to identify.

I bought Diarium only a few days ago, both the Android version and the Windows version, and I don't know if this problem is just one that appeared after an update.
And by the way, I haven't tried to see if they can be loaded automatically from windows, but I don't think so.

And again, thank you very much for your work!!! And I have another suggestion, but in another post after I check if that topic has been discussed before.

When navigating to a diary entry / date in Diarium, the app requests the available photos/videos from the Android system and displays those. If you expect pictures to show, but they aren't shown, then either the Android system fails to deliver the photos or the photos have a different date. Or maybe the photos you expect to see aren't available on the device at all

On Android 13, Diarium uses the recommended photo picker from Google. I cannot tell that picker what folders to use or not. You can use the "add file" button if you want to use another picker. You can also set up WhatsApp to not save photos automatically.

furceag And by the way, I haven't tried to see if they can be loaded automatically from windows, but I don't think so.

This is technically possible, but you would have to make sure that you register the folder you want to integrate as Windows "Camera Roll". It's not super-trivial, but you can try it if you want: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/fix-a-missing-camera-roll-in-windows-10-3f403e32-d879-b2cd-4a24-80338f6ea9d6

Thank you, I hadn't noticed that I can use another photo piker. Now, because I can use my file manager, it's much simpler. The photos are there, in their folder (for example "Birthday 2021" or "Holiday 2020"), they are named correctly (for example 20171020_124850.jpg) but they are not all recognized, it is probably the fault of the Android system.

Can I use my file manager as a default photo picker?

No, I am not planning to make the photo picker configurable, I aim to stick to Googles recommendations as closely as possible (because most of the times, they make sense).

I have another question and I apologize for that.
I noticed that the photos that show the location are not synchronized between Android and PC - Windows 10.
Example: If on the Android phone I go to a certain day (in Diarium), open a photo, press the "picture" button on the top right (it has the "plus" sign on it), immediately for that day the location where the photos were taken is displayed on the page. At the same time, the photo is doubled (one with the "picture" button and one without the "picture" button). Unfortunately, only the photos without the "picture" button are synchronized with the computer (after pressing the synchronization button).
    Synchronization is done on OneDrive.
Can you tell me please what I can do?
    Thank you.

What exactly is the problem? This is working as expected. The "Camera roll" images aren't synced as they are not in the database.

The problem is the following, let's take February 26 for example:

    1. I take photos (with location on), open Diarium on the Android phone for comment and find the photos attached to the day automatically, which is very good.
However, the day in question in the Timeline of the application is without a thumbnail (see photo 1).

The text is synchronized with the PC but not the photos.

    1. Next, I open one of the photos taken in that day and which has the "picture" icon (photo 2)

press the top right button (see photo 3)

then this photo is doubled (one with the "picture" icon and one without the icon, see photo 4)

and only in this mode the photo stamped with the number 1 appears as a Thumbnail in the Timeline (see photo 5)

and is synchronized with the Windows 10 computer. The photo stamped with the number 2 remains with the "photo" icon (circled in red in photo 2 and photo 4) on it but does not synchronizes with the PC (and by the way none of these type of photos are synchronized).

    In conclusion:

    • I would like to know how to synchronize all the photos in Diarium and not just the ones on which I press the "picture" button (from photo 3).
    • how can I make one of the photos of the day already loaded in Diarium appear as a Thumbnail in the Timeline without pressing the "picture" button (from photo 3) and in this way duplicate it.

Thank you for your kindness, I apologize for wasting your time, but I really like this application and I want to use it to its full potential. It's a long post but I don't know how else I could have explained the situation.
It is quite difficult for me to explain this whole situation from a technical point of view because English is not my native language.

furceag I would like to know how to synchronize all the photos in Diarium and not just the ones on which I press the "picture" button (from photo 3).

You would need to add all those pictures to the journal (database) manually. All the other photos with the icon on the bottom right are dynamically loaded and not part of the Diarium database.
You can also try to sync your photos using OneDrive or similar to your PC and then integrate the Camera Roll there (see my link in my previous post).

furceag how can I make one of the photos of the day already loaded in Diarium appear as a Thumbnail in the Timeline without pressing the "picture" button (from photo 3) and in this way duplicate it.

This is not possible currently - because only the photos in the database can be shown in the timeline for performance reasons.

BTW, I saw you watched the Better Call Saul series - it's probably the best series ever, at least in my books 😉
