Help needed to begin using app.

New to this App.
Are there step by step instructions to use the Diarium diary?
Starting with basic information as if I was a sixth grader!
I’m older and this app seems confusing to me, but I am willing to learn , if instructions are easily understandable.
This sites looks like it can offer me, and others, an outlet for personal feeling and days activity. Life is very difficult and from what I have read, this app can help sort out your most personal feeling privately.

What is confusing for you in particular? I tried to make the app as self-explanatory as possible. Some of your questions might have been answered in the FAQ - for all others, please dont hesitate to ask, but not in the "feature requests" section of the forums 🙂

timo Yes - basic question from a new user: I made tags, but don’t know how to tag an entry! Thanks! Is there anything different about tagging a second entry on the same day? I’d like to make multiple entries on the same day but with different tags.

redeyeshev Yes I was thinking of that myself. There are a few things/features that aren't obvious, even to more technical or long-time user (e.g. that you can create multiple entries a day or that the top left date is clickable in the calendar and entry view in the Windows app). So I might add that in the next few days.
I am still curious however what the main problems are for new users after they install the app. As I said, ideally I would be fixing those problems inside the app so they wouldn't have to read through "how to's"

I have to concur with Littfisher. I'm new to this app also... I like it, but there doesn't seem to be any 'manual' of sorts. Not even something as simple as a means to identify what some of the features are and if I should turn them on or off in settings. I like to familiarize myself with an app by reading through a manual, of sorts, just to get the lay of the land before I dive in. IS there a MANUAL Available outside of this forum? Something I can reference on my PC when I have a question on what this is, or what does this do, etc.?

I agree I just lost my entire journal which was used for extensive note taking. I am sick over it. Links and references where on it etc. I did look for the BIG UNDO button to try and salvage it but to no avail. I purchased the app in hopes of recovery. Nope. Nothing there too. Sigh! I will have to redo the entire journal/note again.

On a side note can we do multiple entries in a day? Is that something that the app does? So suppose for Sept 13 eventhough I did 1 journal entry - I can do another later on - different time on the same day? Thanks!

@Ltippett no, there is no manually. I tried to make the app as intuitive as possible - sorry that you are still having trouble understanding some of the apps features. As soon as I find more time (currently I am lacking it) I will wry to write a manual. Maybe, in the meantime the FAQs (which you can find here in the forums) answer some of your questions.

timo My concern was that, not knowing what something is or what it does, I'll activate something that is undesirable and then not know how to turn it off. Or I'll click on something and everything goes nuts on the screen and then not know how to undo whatever it was I did. I've been kinda reading through the forum posts with the hope that I can somewhat understand things better. Like Live Tiles. Haven't figured that one out yet... and what happens if I enable Facebook under Settings|Feeds and Events. Is it going to input every post I make or ask me if I would like to? Afraid to enable that in case all of a sudden I get an influx of posts populating the calendar. I'm still looking for more on that. 🙂

Can you perhaps explain what exactly you experienced?
What "did go nuts on the screen"? 😃
As I said before, I would rather fix the problem itself instead of provide support on how the user has to fix it.
Please have a look into the FAQ. I feel like some questions you have (like the Facebook one) are already covered there

timo I was speaking hypothetically. I have not experienced any irregular behavior yet, I was meaning that it only takes one click and stuff could happen and entire paragraphs COULD disappear. THIS is a concern of mine. Fear of the unknown. 🙂

Just purchased for my Windows Machine, and installed app on my iPhone, Sync'd all to OneDrive.

I love it. So I am concered about all the stuff it does that I do not see. I am not icon aware .. For me a simple list of things I can do and what to click would be wonderful, lest I miss out on other great features than the sync abilities which are superb.

RayLeslie What buttons are you referring to in particular? All buttons should have either a label to it or a tooltip when hovering with the mouse over them. You can also expand the top menu by clicking the ellipse (...) button

KateRehman Yes, you can do multiple entries. On phones it's long-press on the calendar day, and on Windows you right click the day and choose new entry.

KateRehman I am very sorry about this! I can totally understand your frustration.
What could be done to prevent something like this in the future? The app shows an info dialog that the data is stored on the device only be default (unless using the Cloud sync or doing manual backups) after using it for a while. But maybe this is clicked away too easily?

timo I think there should be a warning immbedded in the app if we try to click away from an unsaved or unsync page on it. I know other programs show - this page is unsaved are you sure you want to leave? Or an a pop up that immediately offers to save and sync. It was heart breaking. I am okay. Just took me by surprise. I do love the app thou. Just wasn't a positive experience for first time using it - but it did get me to purchase it lol to try to regain it LOL. The other thing is I know some sync it automatically, or it is left unpublished until you actually publish it/save it. Somewhere having a backup option to catch it so something like that never happens. Because people can forget or get busy or something may pop up - it's something that eases your mind that no worry Diarium will catch it!

The app does automatically save the page when navigating back from an "unsaved" page. Maybe I have misunderstood the problem you were having? How exactly did you lose your whole journal? Are you referring to a single journal entry or to multiple entries? Have you switched your phone or reinstalled the app?
I would recommend enabling the Cloud Sync to have the database backed up to your cloud storage automatically - that way, no data should be lost, even when losing or switching your phone.

I had just newly installed it. It was only 1 entry. So I was not sure if there was a sync option. Perhaps it was off? I didn't know.

I only have it on my tablet. When I went to find a photo and a link to put onto my journal I came back and somehow it showed the sample of a journal entry that you have when you first download the diarium. I was like this isn't my entry! But it was too late. It was gone.

I do have the sync on now for Google Drive. But I am incredibly sad I lost my previous entry.
