Redesign of the MacOS version doesn't have top priority right now, but I will certainly consider it at some point. Designing for MacOS is certainly not my strength so I am very happy about suggestions like yours!
Design is always very subjective and while some users prefer layout A, others prefer layout B. I often get (critical) feedback when I make slight design changes that the majority prefers (and that's also the user segment that expresses their dissatisfaction in Store reviews). It is always hard for me to figure out if a layout change is "worth it". My criticism on the Day One layout is that the thumbnails in the calendar are super-tiny and barely visible and that a 3-column layout could appear more complex than a 2-column-layout as Diarium currently has. I am 100% sure that someone would shout "bring back the old layout" 😃

Very cool, thanks for letting me know! Not quite sure though why they say Diarium has a paid subscription. Diarium not having a subscription is one of its main selling points 😃
