What is the lifespan of this app?

I don't know the best way to phrase this question, so someone let me know if this does not make sense.

Can I count on this app to function so long as Windows 10 exists, even if the developer stops supporting it? I worry that I'm going to start using an app that might one day no longer function if the developer stops working on it.

Realistically speaking, how "fragile" is this app without dev support?
Also, if something happened in the future, is there anything that could prevent me from exporting all of my entries to a word document?

Sorry if this seems like a pessimistic line of questioning but I've lost journals in the past and it was heart breaking when it happened. I really want to do what I can to protect my journal moving forward. I expect that the cloud synch features in Diarium should protect me by creating a backup but I guess I'm asking the developer and the community if that is really something that I can rely on or if I should be taking other steps to protect my journal.

I have no intentions to stop supporting the app anytime soon and there are no mechanisms to intentionally make the app stop working in the future. I am living off of the money I earn from the app so it is in my best interest to support/improve it to keep it attractive to new users.
Obviously I cannot give you any guarantee - no app can do that.
Not sure what answers you are looking for in particular but Diarium does not try to "lock you in". You can export the database and read with any SQLite database program (and developers of other apps would be able to write migration tools to import that data).
Of course you can also export the journal as .docx, .txt or .html

One option would be to put the code (continuously) into escrow and give the keys to some trusted 3rd party. I know the services are very expensive though. I am thinking of starting something like this as I think it's needed for indie devs

As an experiment, I saved Diarium entries in HTML (separate files for each date) and imported them to another app. There are always going to be apps that can import your Diarium entries from TEXT, WORD and HTML files (The files Diarium exports to). That is one of the reasons I love DIARIUM. I am not going to lose my data and will be able to view it and import it to other apps if something would happen to Diarium. And some apps may go the extra mile and allow for complete importing of a Diarium BACK UP file.

Not at all. We put a lot of time into our journals so I think it's natural to think about the future.

Just to feel 'safe' you could export your entries at the end of each year to go into an archive just in case you need to migrate to another app in the future.
