Typing in the Middle of Text Deletes the Characters That Follow

Sometimes, when I go back to correct a mistake in a diary entry, the character I type replaces the character immediately after the cursor instead of being inserted normally. For example, if I wrote "Wat" instead of "What" and move the cursor between the "W" and "a" to type the missing "h", the "h" replaces the next character (tha "a"). Then, when I type that character again, it replaces the one after it, and so on.

The problem does not happen every time, so I haven't found a reliable way to reproduce it. It seems to happen randomly while editing existing text.

This happens on both devices.

This behavior is called “overtype mode” and has already been discussed in New text replaces old text when typing in front of old text. On Windows, press the Insert key once to disable it. Some laptops require an Fn key combination.

Diarium does not implement an overtype mode on Android. Are you using the same physical/Bluetooth keyboard with both devices? If not, please specify which Android keyboard app you use and try whether the problem also occurs with Gboard.

Thanks I fixed it on the laptop.
I'm sorry I didn't write on the previous thread but I couldn't find it because I didn't know the actual name of the problem.
So that means I was pressing "Insert" accidentally? That's weird because it's never happened on Word or any other software.

Most likely, yes. You only need to press Insert once accidentally; overtype mode then remains active until it is disabled again.
Applications handle this key differently. Word may ignore it depending on its settings, while the Windows text control used by Diarium supports it.
This explains the laptop behavior, but not Android. If it happens again on Android, please let me know which keyboard app you are using and, if possible, provide a short screen recording.
