Hi everyone,
I wanted to give an early heads-up about the Google Fit and Fitbit integrations in Diarium.
Google is currently changing its health and fitness APIs. The Google Fit APIs are being phased out and are only supported until the end of 2026. The legacy Fitbit Web API is also being shut down in September 2026 and is supposed to be replaced by the new Google Health API.
I started working on a migration to the new Google Health API so Diarium could keep supporting this kind of health data import in the future. Unfortunately, Google requires apps that access most Google Health data to go through an additional security assessment called CASA. In Diarium’s case, Google assigned a Tier 2 CASA assessment, which has to be done through an authorized lab and repeated every year.
For a small optional feature in an app made by one solo developer, this is a pretty big burden, both in cost and ongoing maintenance. Because of that, I may not be able to keep the Google Fit/Fitbit integration alive in its current form.
Nothing changes immediately. I’m still looking into the available options, including whether Health Connect can be supported on Android. But Health Connect is Android-only, so it would not replace the current Fitbit/Google Fit integrations on Windows, macOS or iOS.
I know some of you rely on these integrations, so I wanted to communicate this early instead of silently removing something later. I’ll post another update once I know the final decision.
