Thanks for the feedback.
The random entry widget was removed as part of the Android widget redesign. The goal was to make the widget more focused and visually useful, especially for entries with photos, and to align it more with the “On this day” widget that exists on iOS/macOS. On those platforms the widget has always been focused on “On this day”, and I didn’t receive any feedback asking for a separate random-entry widget there.
That said, I understand that this change removed a workflow that some Android users actively used. This is always a difficult balance: from my perspective the new widget is cleaner and works better for the memory/photo use case, but for users who used the random widget to rediscover arbitrary old entries, it is a loss of functionality.
I’m listening to the feedback on this. If there is enough demand, I will reconsider adding another alternative widget in the future. It would help if users describe exactly how they used the old widget: random entry only, today’s entry, scrollable text preview, image preview, manual refresh, etc. That makes it easier to decide what a potential new widget should actually do.
