Trouble Logging in With my PIN

I am having trouble logging in with my PIN on my phone. The app is up to date.
I tried logging in today after not using the app for around two months. The app doesn't let me in after entering my 4-digit PIN, but it tells me "Wrong password entered. Please try again" after keying in 12 digits. I am sure the PIN I'm trying is correct because I used a significant event in the last century to remind me.

Something interesting happened when I opened the app yesterday; it bypassed the login page and went straight to the entries list. I found this unusual, so I restarted the app (something I now regret) and can't get in now. [This happened before I updated the app. I am not sure what version I was on before.]

Additional info

Cloud sync is not enabled.
I do not know how to reproduce the bug.

If the app rejects the password or PIN, the wrong password or PIN has been entered.
If you use the Cloud Sync, which is highly recommended, you can reset the app and restore the journal from your Cloud after re-connecting to the Cloud Sync.

When you go to the login page, does the app ask for a password or a PIN?
Did you use the app on another device also, perhaps with a different PIN or password? It appears that the app is expecting a 12-digit long PIN if it shows the "wrong password" message after entering 12 digits

This shouldn't happen. I'm unable to reproduce this either. If it happened in an older app version it's possible that it has been fixed in the meantime

I don't understand how this is happening either.

When I go to the login page, the app asks for a PIN, but after entering 12 digits, it says that the wrong password has been entered.

I am sure what my PIN is because I used WW2 as a reminder. I used it for several months to log in to the app without any issue. I haven't used the app on another device, and the app is up to date.

Unfortunately, I'm not using iCloud Sync. If I delete the app, I'll lose all entries from 2018.
