[iOS/macOS] Widgets

First of all, kudos for the great journaling app. I've been on the lookout for different journaling apps that would be multi-platform and synced, and Diarium seems awesome in that regard.

Now, the feature request that I have is to add macOs and iOS widgets. What I would love to see is the On This Day widget, but of course, having other options, like a Quick Entry widget could also be nice. Coming from DayOne and Journey, I really miss this possibility.

RicardoPosada This feature request is about iOS/macOS widgets. There is already a widget for Android and you can use the "quick access" action when long-pressing the app icon as 1x1 widget

timo Sad to say that the android widget s really "outdated" if you compare it with the ideas proposed here. It still used am "old" style of android widget thst has nothing to do with the new and pratical ios widgets that we are now seeing in android

Please consider implement these ideas also in android with an improved look🙂

Pedro I hope to deliver this feature with one of the next updates. Just a "On this day" widget for now that shows a (random) entry of the same day of previous years. I am not sure how it should look like design-wise, I am open to suggestions.

Are there any other widgets you'd like to see?

I do want to add this feature, but I would appreciate any input on how this widget should look design & functionality-wise ("How should it look?", "What should happen when clicking on it?"). Unfortunately haven't received any such feedback yet.
Regarding your previous post: Unfortunately I don't know what you mean with "Visual picture widget (This day visual)" or "Tekst this day widget". Maybe you can explain in more detail?

Jeroentb Thanks for the mock-up - it gives us a good starting point for discussing the options.
As always, I want to keep things simple and take a minimalistic approach, so I want to implement the "most important" widget first (other widgets later, if there is enough demand from many users).
I want to add a "On this day" widget first, perhaps a "quick input" widget later. I currently don't have plans for "daily prompts".

A few questions:

Your topmost widget is labeled "visual picture widget" and the description reads as if it would display just any, random picture in the users database. But at the same time you also wrote "On this day" in both the widget and the second sentence. Which of the two options did you mean?
What entry does the second widget from top show? Also "on this day" entries or a random entry?
What text should be shown by default in the "On this day" widget? I think the date (incl. year) should always show. But apart from that only the picture? Also the heading? Also the text? Should the text "On this day" date also show on the widget (as in the topmost wdget)? I could make the widget configurable, but only a small percentage of users knows about that ability.
Not every user adds images to all of his entries. A widget that only shows an image doesn't work when there's no image in the entry to display. You write that as a replacement, the widget could use the color of the app. Do you mean the accent color that can be configured in the app settings? I am not sure if this would look appealing. I think a "normal" background color (white or grey) would be a better fit.
What is the expected behavior of the widget if the user protects the app using a password/PIN/FaceID? The only good option that comes to my mind is that the widget just shows an info, that it won't work as long as the protection is enabled
