Automatic tags

I am thinking about automatic tags and subtags.

For example, I like biking, running, table tennis, etc. These are all sports. So what if I had the option to assign these tags under a higher-tier tag, such as "sport"? That way, if I tag a note with "biking," the "sport" tag would be added automatically as well.
And it can go even further. You could set the tag "hobby" to be superior to "sport," and so on and on. 🙂

I have many notes with multiple tags, which are often the same, so this feature would save me some time, and I think it's a good idea.

I realize that it wouldn’t be easy to program, but take it just as an idea.

RomanP Hi Roman, this sounds like a good idea - and personally I feel that this can also correlate to the color grouping of the tags as well.

As a colorblind person, it is definitely very difficult to do grouping based on color alone - I've always hoped that the tags can be grouped with name too instead of just color - it would make it much more accessible; and it would not only help those with colorblindness, but also typical everyday user.

I personally use trackers for grouping "tags" and in some cases I add the group name as a prefix for the tags. I have described it thoroughly in here: Sub categories for tags

Hi Crossoni, thanks for the thoughtful post, I find your breakdown of the 3 methods of grouping tags interesting.

As you've probably felt, the fact that we are trying to find a workaround despite the limitations, speaks to the fact that as a core, this app is so good and usable that we are happy to use it despite some compromises; and it also shows that tag grouping feature would be a great addition to this already great app
