Automated daily/weekly back up

It would be great to have an automatic backup of the Diarium's database .
At least to a local storage of the phone (one can use other tools like dropbox, syncthing, etc)

Why would you need such a feature and what would be the benefit over the sync feature?

timo Hm, why would I need an auotomated backup? Because I want backup to be done automatically.
One can also create multiple versions of backup files etc. Not sure that sync covers this.
I have no second device to sync with, a backup is exactly what I want to.
Moreover, I can imagine one could want both - a sync between devices and a regular backup to have a recovery point.

The sync functions as a backup even without a second device.
I don't plan to introduce an automatic backup. Manual backups take 3 clicks

What happens when we have two or more devices.

This second device was new and was in offline state.When i got online and try to click sync button, It asked to upload or download on this second device which doesn't have earlier data from first device.

If I click upload on second device,all my first device is lost? Or do we have somewhere to retrieve?

I am afraid to even try and see the behaviour because i might loose data

What exact message do you see on your new, second device? Does it have any journal data that you want to keep?

Yes,
Device 1: all entries + few new
Device 2: all entries + few new but different from device 1

These few new do fall on same day based on availability of devics battery and network availability.

When i click sync on my device2 I got popup option to upload/download but i want to merge.

If there is no way to merge. That's still ok for me.
If there is please help me.

My intention here is to have daily/weekly backup so that even if we loose some data it won't hurt much. Something is better than nothing.

I understand. First, make a database backup on both devices, to be sure nothing gets lost.
Then, use the "download" button in the sync alert. This should trigger a merge, however only the last 7 entries of the local database might be merged into the new one from the cloud. Depending on how much the "few new" is, some entries might disappear.
Let me know how this goes and if the app behaves as I just explained it. I might need to rethink that "7 entries" threshold and see if a "full merge" can be accomplished and/or what drawbacks this would have
