Erratic Tablet Behavior, disappearing formatting bar

I've been eager to switch to this app from Journey, but I'm finding the experience on my tablet very erratic and frustrating to use.

The main bug I'm finding is that the formatting bar at the bottom only appears when the window is full screen. When using the OneUI "pop out" or split screen features, it won't come up. As I'm using an S9 Ultra, the screen is very wide so it's a bit unwieldy to use full screen with the single column interface.

To add a very niche use case issue: with the Samsung keyboard cover on, scrolling through entries with the mousepad frequently selects and moves huge amounts of text around, flying up and down the page. It doesn't seem to detect the second finger press accurately? I understand this issue probably isn't an enormous priority, but thought I'd mention it.

Issues persist using both Samsung keyboard and Gboard software.

I will see if I can reproduce this on my (small screen) Samsung S24 once I am back from vacation.

I'm essentially using the standard Android text control, to which I didn't add any logic in regards of text selection or moving it around. I would expect the text control to behave similarly in other apps. I also don't have a Samsung keyboard cover so I'm not sure how I could reproduce or test this

@timo This is one of the reasons why Diarium needs a dedicated read/write mode for entries. 😉

So I was able to reproduce this now. The reason the toolbar doesn't show up is because the method I am using to determine if a keyboard is shown returns "false" when the app is in "split screen" or "pop-up" mode.
I will try to workaround this issue using this method and also display the toolbar if this method returns "true".
It will come with a small drawback though: if you focus the main text view the keyboard will show up, as well as the formatting toolbar. But when you then dismiss the keyboard again, the toolbar will stay visible (because the text field is still focused and the app isn't informed about the keyboard's dismissal)

timo No worries! I forgot to mention that typical keyboard shortcuts like ctrl + i, ctrl + b or (even ctrl + z to undo) don't work, so the missing format bar hurts a bit. 😅 I'm not sure how it would behave with a regular bluetooth keyboard.

I've tested with various other text editors to make sure it's not just a general Samsung Keyboard quirk, but the scrolling issues and shortcuts are only happening in Diarium unfortunately.

I fully understand this is likely just the way it has to be, but thought I'd mention it. Have a nice vacation! I appreciate your prompt reply.
