I am coming from an iOS app called "Daygram", currently looking for a new home for my journals.
Over time I developed some habit that require frequent use of the "Insert Timestamp" feature to create a daily event log which is my preferred format of journaling, It would be nice to have some features that would ease migration for users with similar habits.
Timestamp shortcut
I use timestamp feature heavily in my journaling and I find it cumbersome having to access it with two clicks
It would be nice if there is an option to move the "Insert Timestamp" Button from the menu into the bottom bar
Alternatives I have considered:
Enable "Show time of entries" and inserting a new entry every time I need a timestamp
Cons: Doing this is requires two clicks "create entry" "set entry time" which equally slow with side effect of cluttering the timeline.
Timestamp prefix suffix configuration
The current "Insert timestamp" template is - H:MM A -\n
, it would be preferred if there's a way to configure this formatting.
The dashes and newline takes up a lot of vertical space in a short writing but frequent timestamp insertion, and doesn't work mid sentence.
I do acknowledge that it could be helpful for long writing and occasional timestamp insertion, the - and newline helps stand out from chunk of text, hence an option would make everyone happy.
I propose a having option to configure that allows user to configure the time format prefix and suffix
In this case the default prefix of -
and suffix of -
(and a toggle to end with new line)
This would allow users to edit the formatting to suit their needs and habits.
Ideally timestamp itself can be configured but this is minor, but from other threads I see that it bases on device local, and options for timestamp would be complicated to convey to the user so this is least of my concerns.
If the space is inserted by the app, it would be nice to have an compact toggle, but otherwise I think leaving the rest to system is the better option here.
Another simpler alternative which is a toggle to remove everything except the timestamp, that would also work, but it would be less versatile.
This is the current formatting
To formatting I use(Note the missing space between MM and A)
Alternatives I considered:
Deleting the newline, that works but the remaining dashes are less then ideal.
Deleting the dashes itself is impractical, the prefixing dash requires moving the cursor to the front of the line every time a timestamp is inserted.
Thanks, this app looks promising to me, I like the business model and features it brings, I hope this request could be considered.
