Where are the files stored and how does the sync work ?

So I have a number of questions about back up and sync

Everytime I make some changes to Journal entries or add something new there is a yellow coloured symbol which appears on the Sync button. When I click that it turns green after a few seconds indicating that sync is complete. Does that mean everytime I ll have to manually click on sync or is there an option to automate this ?
Are the files stored locally as well or only in my personal cloud storage (I am using Google Drive here) ?
If I am not connected to internet, can I access my Journal Entries and make changes to them ? If yes then I hope they won't get lost till the time my PC gets connected to internet.
I have decided to do manual exports on monthly basis for backups and the backups are also happening automatically in my personal cloud storage. I think that should be enough to keep my data safe. Is there anything else that team Diarium expects or recommends us to do to keep the data safe ?

No there's also auto-sync (enabled by default)
Yes they are stored locally
Not sure if I understand correctly, but you edit the local database and the sync uploads them
Enabling the Cloud Sync should be backup enough but a manual backup every 3 months or so can't hurt either

Thanks for answering them, but I have a follow up question to the 2nd one

If everything is stored locally that means the photos and videos that I upload will start occupying a lot of space in a few months from now on the local storage. I am okay with them taking up a significant space on my personal cloud storage (since I always have the option to upgrade plans) but on my PC I have very limited storage. So what can be done in such a case ?

And one more thing. I didn't exactly get it. Are they stored locally in their original form or in encrypted form (in database) so that they won't occupy much space ?

Sethi Diarium does compress image and video files before they are added to the database. You would need to add a lot of them (especially videos) in order for them to take up a lot of space.

Well that means I can upload decent number of media files in my journal entries without worrying about my local drive getting filled.

Sethi It's a difficult question to answer because everyone uses Diarium differently. How much local storage do you have? How much media do you add to your entries? How often do you add an entry?

As an example: My journal goes back to 2008 (9000 entries 11000 attachments). I have photos for daily entries from 2011-2019. Since 2019 when I started using Diarium, I have several photos for multiple entries each day and I'm using the lower compression rate for images (bigger files). My Diarium is just over 5 gig.

That's great to see that you have been journaling for such a long time.
Hopefully I am also able to continue with this habit for that long.
Your example gives me a pretty good idea about the space these Journal entries with images take up.

So if I need to check how much space are my current Journal entries occupying then how can I do that ? (On windows in which location does Darium save all the data)

Sethi Settings > Diary Statistics will tell you how big your database is
