filters in attachments tab

i have few audio recordings and videos and lot of images.

currently it’s difficult too go through 2000 attachments just to find 5-10audio clips

i would like to filter out based on type of attachment. something like gdrive does

if possible to filter tags/people and multiple selection like video & audio

One problem when implementing this feature is that when a user filters to only videos, this would cause the data of all the shown videos to be loaded into memory, in order to get the thumbnail for display. This is not causes very high memory consumption (potentially killing the app) but it can also very, very slow. Potential workarounds:

change database schema to also store a thumbnail along the video data
do not load video thumbnail, instead show video icon (similar to how audio recordings or files are displayed)
load video thumbnails serially - this would prevent excess memory consumption, but would make loading the thumbnails even slower

First option would be great - change database to also store a video thumbnail. I think without thumbs for the videos, it would defeat the object of browsing attachments.

Changing the database schema is always a bit problematic as this will cause sync-incompatibilities with app instances that aren't on the latest app version, that's why I try to keep those database schema changes to a minimum. Also, adding a thumbnail to the media table would add the question of that thumbnail should then also be synced to other devices - which then could make the sync more complex.
But a more simple solution just came to my mind: The thumbnail could just be cached locally, in the temp-folder of the app. When first requesting the thumbnail, it would be generated and cached, all subsequent requests will just use the cache. Will try this out and see if it works well

AvinashR Yes, when cached thumbnails for videos can be retrieved fast enough, I could also consider to have them displayed in the calendar/timeline previews

Video thumbnails are cached for faster retrieval in attachments tab
Same can done for calendar and timeline view

If i just have videos added to entry, timeline and calendar view doesn’t show any icon

But if video are already cached then we can reuse that for displaying timeline and calendar
