transparent-background GIF

OS + version: iOS 16.4.1
Starting today, when I attach a transparent-background GIF, instead of the accent color (system color #008055) showing through the transparent part, like it has in the past, the transparent part displays as black.

I temporarily disabled GIFs - new GIFs are recoded to a JPG. One reason is this bug on iOS, another reason is that I am considering removing the GIF feature permanently because I think it is not used very commonly and increases the code complexity.
Can you give some more details how you are/were using the GIF feature in the past and why JPG isn't sufficient?

timo OK, JPG will work for me. I had been removing the background from GIFs and added the photo to a Daily Entry and the Diarium accent color showed through the transparent part on my iPhone. I can set the background color of the GIF in a photo editor and then save the file as a JPG before I add the photo to my daily entry.

Is there a particular reason why you want to have transparent images? I never thought of this to be a reason to use GIFs instead of JPG

Okay, so it appears I'm late to this thread. I logged in to find some info on why my recently added GIF was no longer animated. SURPRISE: it's recoded to a JPG! why? SURPRISE: to resolve an issue with transparent backgrounds on iOS
Sorry, but this sounds to me like a solution in need of a problem. Speaking on behalf of the Android-PC-AnimatedGIF loving population "PLEASE UNDO THIS!" :
I have and several animated GIFS in my diary and I want to go an ADDING and HAVING animated GIFS in it (there are many Diary programs out there that can't do this, yours is (or at least, was) better than them.

I've seen no update on this 🙁
All my prior diary entries (animated gifs) are still animated but any newly added gifs are getting flattened into JPGS
This is NOT an improvement.

Bring back animation (for GIFS)
