"On this day" notification shows full diary entry even with password

As the title mentions, both my Android app and Windows app are locked (fingerprint on the phone, face on the laptop), but when I get a "on this day" notification, depending on the length, they are either partially or fully shown inside of the notification.

Is it possible to "mask" it with some generic message if password protection is enabled?

I haven't seen this mentioned in the forum (I did a couple of searches).
Windows app is updated to the latest version as per the store - 2.9.60. Android version is also reported as the newest 2.9.62
Windows version is 22H2. Android version is 13, March 2023 update.
As for reproducing, it is enough to receive a notification about the previous entry.

You could simply turn off the feature completely or what exactly would be the benefit of a notification that does not show any meaningful contents? The current behavior is the intended behavior, so I change this to a feature request.

timo I just noticed similar behaviour under Windows - the most recent, "password protected" post appears in the Windows Notification area. I deleted the notification quickly so I didn't see the extent of the exposure, but I may have to remove the product until this "feature" is removed or made optional. It was quite a shock to witness it.

Thanks for the reply.
I was thinking whether to add it as a feature request or bug, but it seemed strange to have a locked diary but still parts readable from the "outside".
Anyway, the benefit is obviously to have a reminder in a way. And as for no meaningful content in the notification, it could be like email apps - they can show the subject and sender, but they don't show full email in the notification. In the case of Diarium, maybe the title and date only.

The title could contain sensitive information as well so that wouldn't really "fix" the problem. I'll keep this open for others to comment on how this feature should behave when enabling the password protection

You can always disable the "on this day" notifications in the app settings, if you don't want to see them pop up there.
By the way, Windows also offers the ability to block notifications of any app, even if they don't provide such option in the app itself

timo i believe the right solution would be to do as in other similar apps notification : "you have new entries for this day in your diary".

After touching you would enter the app. It would be safer since you wouldn't see the content without opening the app and inserting the password.

Hi @timo,

I really love the On this day feature. I unfortunately had to disable it completely.

As my children or my wife sometimes use my phone or my computer for their own needs, I do not want any information from my diary to be shown to them. (windows and android, by the way)

What I wish to see is the notification that, on this day, I already have written X entries over the years. And that way be invited to dive in. This is the standard behaviour in Diaro, and that I loved it.

This is for my a very useful information as I do not check every day into the On this day category. But knowing that old posts are waiting for me, that is great.

So please allow this feature to be more private.
A possible mechanism would be to reduce the notification content as soon as a password protection is set. That makes totally sense.

Pedro "You have new entries [...]" doesnt seem right. They aren't really new entries, right? Maybe we can come up with a better message?
Open to suggestions. I think I would change the behavior if we find a good phrase to display as a "placeholder".

timo you're right Timo. Maybe something like: "you have memories of this day in Diarium. Don't forget to check it out!" would work well. Or even something as" Here's a memory of this day in your diary. Don't forget to check it!"

Anyways just a suggestion 🙂

"You have written X times on this day. Check it out" or
"Discover what you wrote on this day. X entries are waiting for you" or
"Explore what you lived on this day. You wrote X times a February 17th (or whatever the current day is"

And tapping the notification will lead directly to the "On this day" with, if applicable, the entering of the password.

You could also use several phrases as placeholder. This is something I like in the daily reminder to write something for the day.
