Today I just realised with the "in this day" feature that has been 4 years since I began writing everyday thanks to diarium.
I really like this app and I think that it's one of the things that has most changed me in my life.

I'm really glad that other people like you are seeing the benefits of archiving their thoughts and actions in a diary.

Edit: Try to take advantage of the fact that Diarium is a digital journal. I try to take at least one picture a day, have a geotag when I go somewhere fancy or in general archive something that I think was important that day. Seeing them in the furutre really gives an insight on how much people (including you) change through time

wemake Taking just one photo each day is such a great way to document the year - especially if things are busy and you don't get a chance to sit down and type.

I am a first time user, have tried manually keeping journals and other programs and applications and never really got the habit going over the years. Manual because at my age we had no choice then 😀

Have been using it just over a week now and the difference this is making to me in such a short space of time is the reason I sought out a way to express my thanks, Google store review is somewhat limited.

Your app is astounding, the impact it has had for me is nothing short of perfection.

Things like adding multiple entries on a clear calender, love it. Tags, my failing memory thanks you. Log audio snippets, tag things, link things...

I'm sure there are other similar apps like this out there, I've tried many, but doesn't matter anymore. Second day of using it and trying out the features I went premium on android. I found what I was looking for. I see from coming here you support other platforms will be checking those too.

You app is so intuitive, so easy to use and find all the little cool features.

For nearly 40 years I have been making cramped entries into those little calendar books that have one month per page. Finally started looking for a more modern approach after seeing a friend with the Day One app. While I liked the function, it was a non-starter for me because 1. It is Apple only, 2. Not cross platform, 3. A subscription service hosts the data. Diarium looks perfect - I have complete control over my data, and I can synch between my phone and desktop and laptop. I have now started working my way backwards, copying entries from my little books (almost 1 year done) and adding tags and locations.

recobb 40 years - wow! Fair play, it takes a lot of dedication and patience to type out written entries, but I think it will be fantastic when you have all those entries logged and tagged and especially when you see them appear on the 'on this day' function. Have you found your entries have expanded since you're no longer limited with entry length?

I'm a long time Evernotes user. (6 years). I'm currently looking over Diarium based on a web search for other Journaling software. IMO Evernotes has become very 'bloaty" and the security options are lacking in some regards. I'll continue to evaluate and post my decision in this thread. One potential issue is lack of importing from Evernotes...notes, tags, etc. I can rebuild a Diarium environment if I decided to go with this product.

Sconi1 I went ahead and took the plunge from Evernote to Diarium, best decision ever. Evernote just became way to bloated as you've stated.

My journal entries will be about this informative to begin with I imagine.
But I really needed to work on my gratitude.

jdbliss3 Hi John. It can be a bit daunting when you first start journaling - what to write, how often? But yes, Diarium does make it very easy. I used to write everything in one big entry, but because I have Diarium on my phone, I make small entries during the day too, and tagging them makes them easier to refer back to later.

With gratitude, you could set up an entry template containing a blank bulleted list and tagged with 'gratitude' to record your daily list if you're doing that.

If you're looking for some inspiration on journaling, have a look at The New Diary, and Journal to the Self books. I found them really good.

redeyeshev i started writing on diary in digital format very long back in 90s.
I had a casio digital notebook for address and phone number.
I first saw internet in '99. I had no computer of my own. Thats Yahoo! and Orkut era.
I discovered fetchnotes and blogger.com, which were not really SOCIAL MEDIA. Fetchnotes of today is not the same at that time. It was web based online diary. Fetchnotes was very unique thing for me at that time! I carried that ID and password till few days back, when google and internet together corrupted my password manager database. I used evernotes too. Recently I found some entries from back in 2010. I had 100s of accounts all over web. That time for me, Amazon was a Spammer. I didn't know that it was shopping website. Evolving of web on user' point of view is very fascinating.

From 2012 I have been using Color note on smart phone. Its overwhelmingly reliable. I had never thought it would be. Its only simple text based; no multimedia or rich text. I manually deleted almost 5 years' of entries from there in 2017; out of anger on something. It was a loss. Now I realised. I would never do again.
Multiple selection and deletion feature was not there in the app. I deleted one by one!

Now, its Diarium. I use color notes too. I am not very fond of multimedia. But rich text and bulets would have done good for me in Color note. Reliability and long term association matters.

I started journaling in 2006. I'm retired now, 74, but was a technical writer for 30 years. I started writing lengthy accounts of my life and thoughts to keep my writing skills fresh between long periods of waiting for new software releases to be documented. Then I realized that many great writers--Henry David Thoreau being my favorite--kept extensive journals, which they would then use later on to develop their books. Thoreau, to me, is the best model four journaling, but Diarium gives me the ease and organization to make this work more fun.

tomcubb I agree about ease and organisation. I feel my journal is much more organised since using Diarium. I used to enjoy journaling with TheJournal and Rednotebook, but I always found my posts quite disorganised. With multiple entries and how well Diarium handles photos, journaling is a lot of fun now and so much more rewarding.

I've got a Thoreau collection audiobook, but it's still in my 'to listen to' queue. I look forward to getting some inspiration.

Made the switch from DayOne today. I've been using that app for almost a decade, but the last few years it's become so bloated with new features, and unfixed bugs to go along with them, it's become almost unusable.
But the importing from DayOne to Diarium was painless and worked very well. Had more then 600 entries that dated back to the 1980s (I'd been using DayOne to archive old written journals, old letters to and from family and friends, even old school work from elementary school I still had).

Diarium has all the features to keep my personal archiving going and in a beautifully polished interface. It is certainly leaving the competition behind.

3liLuc Glad your import was a smooth process. Yes, Diarium is a very lean app. Timo seems keen not to add anything unnecessary and I think that's really important. I used TheJournal years ago and there was so much going on there that it felt cluttered and overwhelming.

I do the same. I was clearing out an old Gmail account recently and popped a load of family emails from years ago into Diarium.

Thanks Tom. I downloaded the sample and within a few pages I could tell I was going to get a lot out of it so bought the full Kindle book. Very inspiring!

SamanthaLauer Hi Samantha. Welcome to the forum. Hope you're getting a lot out of using Diarium. I wish I had kept a diary more regularly when I was at school. I kept one for a year in 9th grade, but the entries were very short because I used a small week-to-page diary.

Hi, my name is ben and I am not new to journalling, but I am not doing it regularly. Maybe diarium can change that, but that's actually not my main goal.

What I am looking for, is a cojournalling app. Diarium just happens to be beautiful, to have many appealing integrations and automations, and seems like a well thought-through product of the 21st century. Co-journalling: Diarium, like every other journal app, just lacks the ability to easily write into the same journal entry with neither of the writers to be more privileged than the other. In fact, no developer in the world seems to be interested in that feature. 😅

Writing this feature request is why I signed up to this forum, so I'll go right at it, now.

Hi, my name is Joel. I've been journaling almost daily for 15 years now ( I did skip a year or two)
I started out using pen and paper and used varios services & apps until I setteled on Dirium.
I purchased Diarium in 2017 and have been using it daily since.
Over the years, I've had some small issues here and there and Timo Partl was extremely quick at responding and helping me out!
my database is 619 MB I have 3,355 entries and 3,00 photos.
I don't plan on stopping anytime soon!

hoovy Hey Joel. Wow 15 years is a good run! I'm a bit like you - starting on paper, then going through various apps until I discovered Diarium - I only wish I'd discovered it in 2017!

Hi from the desert region of South Africa, the Northern Cape. Made my 1st Diarium entry on 2022-08-27, after I started looking for an alternative to Evernote.

Very happy so far. Synching flawlessly between 2 computers & a cellphone, had a bit of a hassle finding a Paid/Pro App for Huawei, but stumbled upon GumRoad and found it there.

Just looking for a reminder feature for future appointments, but its not a deal breaker.

Hi,
New Diarium user, joined today 27th January 2023. First time owning a Pro diary, previously used my Calendar in Android phone and synced to Windows. Once I learn how to use this app (a user guide would be helpful), I expect to use it daily. This is out of necessity as I recently developed an "active" Crohn's disease, not pleasant. I now need to record daily diets, activities, medications and stress.

I will be a regular watcher of this Forum to learn to get the most out of this app.

AttilaTheHun Welcome! I can imagine Diarium would work really well for recording daily stats. Have you looked at using the tracker tags function? It might be useful for you.

I find Diarium really intuitive, but a lot of people have said they would like a user guide. If you've got any usage questions, just post them on the forum.
