Hi Timo, love the app, thank you for all the hard work.

I'm having an issue getting the app to download to my windows PC. It's currently synced to my android phone, and was also synced to this same PC previously. I had some big technical issues with the PC, did a system reset, and then renamed it without thinking (it used to be my brother's and I wanted a new name for it.)

Now it won't let me re-download the app to the PC, because it's still registered to the same PC under the old name. I was wondering if there's any way to de-register the app from that version of the PC that technically doesn't exist anymore, or if I'll have to buy it again and just register the new copy.

Why doesn't it "let you" download the app? What error message shows? You need to log in to the Microsoft app with the Microsoft account your bought it with. You don't need to buy it again

I downloaded it from the google play store, and when I go there to re-download it there's a button on that page that says "Install on more devices". When I click on it, I see a dropdown menu labeled "Choose a device", but the only available options under it are "No eligible devices for app install", and my phone, which is blanked out since it already has the app installed. The green "Install" button at the bottom is blanked out, and there doesn't seem to be any way to select this PC for installation.

You must be using the Play Store on the web. You cannot install apps from the Play Store on a Windows or Mac PC. You need to use a different App store - Microsoft Store or the Apple App Store which comes preinstalled on your device.

Ahh, ok. Makes sense now. So when I go to buy it in the microsoft store, I'm also getting an error message. I'll contact the microsoft support team and see if they can help with it. Thank you again.

I have refreshed Windows 10 and my Diarium app was deleted.
I can't get a new copy because the download gets stuck at 1% on the Microsoft store.
Not only can't I write new diary entries, my past life is locked beyond my reach.
I have done the things as advised on sites retrieved by a Google enquiry - none of hem have worked.

Have you signed into the windows app store with the same password and user name that you bought Diarium with? The purchase should be linked to that account. Just a thought.

DerekTucker Google inquiry won't help as you want to download from the Microsoft store.
When the download is stuck, then there is a problem with the store app. Try to restart windows, make sure all Windows updates are installed. If that doesn't help, i recommend contacting Microsoft support.
In order to get the existing journal back into the app, you need to use the cloud sync (if you used it in the past) or import a journal backup

HeleneTrowell I've had the exact same issue. Why @timo would we want to buy the pro version - and be told of all of its benefits including syncing across devices - when in fact it does not do this and people have to buy the pro version multiple times. This is completely false advertising and you should not be allowed to claim features of the pro version that doesn't actually provide these features. Otherwise we may as well stick to the free version, as in fact the pro version offers nothing more.

KathrynGeels I am sorry it wasn't clear for you how the Pro version. What exactly is false advertising and where? It is clearly noted in the Pro version page (and in other places) that the Pro version needs to be purchased separately per platform. How can I make this more clear? What could I improve? Should I make it a platform-spanning subscription to avoid the multiple purchases?

timo Hi, thanks for your reply. And yes that's exactly what you should do - it's a barrier for people to pay multiple times for a product that they consider is ONE synched, cohesive product. I don't pay for Apple One separately for all of my Apple devices - I pay one subscription a month to access it across all my devices. That's the UX I expect and receive. Even if you double or tripled the cost of your one-off subscription for it to be accessible across all devices on the pro version then at least customers know exactly what they're paying and what they're getting. Surely, as demonstrated in the comment feeds, it's clear that several other customers also see the current model as a barrier and as such, improvements can be made.

KathrynGeels Thanks for your comment. I know from many other users, that they prefer the "one time payment" model, that Diarium offers and dislike (like myself) subscription-models where you have to pay continuously (and much more in the end). See "Day One", which is another journaling app (https://dayoneapp.com/premium/#day-one-premium-pricing): They charge $35 per year. If you used this app for 7 years (this is the duration that Diarium exists for and I am writing a journal myself now), this would sum up to $245. This is much more than double or triple the price of Diarium, even if you bought the app for all 4 platform that it is available on. Would you have opted for a $35 year platform-spanning yearly subscription rather than the ~$10/platform one-time-payment if you have had the option? If you would have (and other users would have as well) I will consider adding such an option.

Another reason that I tried to explain above is that implementing a subscription comes with many obstacles (users would have to create a user account & I would have to set up a server to track user accounts and licenses, this is very time consuming and costs money). Implementing such a subscription-model would easily take a full year of my time, in which I wouldn't be able to work on other features & improvements.

There's quite a few programs that charge a fee per platform. Especially those that rely on users' cloud drives for sync.
I see no problem with it and far prefer it to any subscription model.

It seems that when I bought my desktop and android version, with the latter recently reinstalled and showing as a trial version, I have changed android phones twice and also including the OS (from Lineage to GraphenOS). I am very happy to pay again for the Android version but I don't have or want a google account on this phone. Is there a way to pay you from my windows PC ?

gray How did you install the app on a device without Play Store? I only officially support/upload/update the app through the Play Store. There is an alternative way to buy the app when you sideload the app from another app store, but this license is then not connected to the Play Store/Google account.

Hi I purchasd the Windows verions from Gumroad and now I want to install it on a second Windows laptop. I cannot figure this out (I'm sure there isa simple answer!)

Woody Simply use the installer you got after purchasing and execute it on your second laptop
