I came upon this since I had a very similar idea. Would it be possible to just add the concept of a 'main' tag that defines the colour of the posts? Like, adding code that just always gives that main tag priority to use it to colour them and simultanously feeds into the calendar view?
As for colour - perhaps give each post a little colour strip on the left side to more easily differentiate them depending on their tags?
